I Counted Sheep

It WORKED! I was in bed, unable to sleep so I counted sheep and I dropped off!
Here's why and how that happened. I don't find it easy to get to sleep ... well, not when I am just lying there doing nothing. because my mind is so busy I cannot just do nothing. So, my mind races. It thinks of all the kazillion things I could have, should have done that day. About things I must do tomorrow, but that I won't get them done and .... well, you get the idea. I lie there worrying.

So I have learned, over many years, to read. I also write notes (about what I am reading) and I am very creative at that time. This is why my mind races if the thoughts aren't channeled. So I focus. Mostly this will only last for perhaps 30 minutes and I then turn off the light and, with thoughts on what I was reading and writing, I drop off.

On occasions, when my eyes are tired but my brain is still active (OK, it's most nights) I plug in an Audio recording and listen to am mp3. I have a bank of CDs and an mp3 player with seminars and teleconferences on that are essential bed-time listening!

SO, that's how I drop off!

Every Trick In The Book

At the moment I am writing up a selection of Magic Effects and Routines for a forthcoming release called 'Every Trick In The Book'. This highlights the various methods of magic and discusses the reasons why they work, the psychological reasons and other issues, and develops these tools into techniques and strategies with business applications. Last night, I was working on a presentation where the 'patter' is based around some sheep and how they behave like a flock, following the leader. It actually uses coins to represent them. rather than sit up jangling coins in bed (!) I was lying there visualising the handling as I worked on the spoken script.

And that's when I fell asleep!

So ... counting sheep does work ... like magic!
